Charter schools on the East Coast

The largest system of east coast charter schools is Friendship Public Charter School. The system composed of eight schools located in Washington, DC, and greater Baltimore, MD, provides education for more than 4,000 K-12 students.

All of the schools in Friendship’s system are family oriented and emphasize high academic standards. The system has a 90% graduation rate with more than 90% of its students enrolling in college. This charter school system is a superior example of what such schools can offer.

Friendship’s mission statement highlights what sets many charter schools apart from their traditional counterparts. Its goal is:

To prepare students to become ethical, well-rounded and self sufficient citizens by providing a world-class education that motivates students to reach high academic standards, enjoy learning, achieve success, and contribute actively to their communities.

Like many charter schools, this mission statement emphasizes a commitment to family and community through responsible and disciplined living.
