No Stereotypical Charter School Student

Charter school students are as diverse as those in traditional schools. Charters do not just attract the "high achievers” and, in fact, often are more often marked by a student population drawn from former “low achievers” and otherwise at-risk students.

75% of Texas' charter students are minority. Minnesota's charter schools educate twice the percentage of limited-English-proficient students as their traditional counterparts. And, charter schools that major in math and science have students that average well above their counterparts in a similar demographic.

Unlike, some traditional public school systems, most charter schools do not blame poor education on the social, ethnic and financial demographics of the area from which their students are drawn. Instead charter school students are educated in an atmosphere where they come to embrace their abilities to achieve both academically and socially.
